Andrew L. Chen, M.D., M.S.
Andrew L. Chen, MD, MS completed his undergraduate education at the Johns Hopkins University, where he graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors with a B.A. in Biology. During his undergraduate career, he was awarded with the prestigious NIH Intramural Research Training Award for basic science research performed at the National Institutes of Health, as well as the National Science Foundation Research Award. He then completed graduate education at the Johns Hopkins University and graduated with Tau Beta Pi honors with an M.S. in Biomaterials Science and Engineering.
After attending medical school at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Dr. Chen completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York, during which time he spent an additional year performing research at the Musculoskeletal Research Institute. He then sought fellowship training in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at the celebrated Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado. Dr. Chen is a board-certified Orthopaedic surgeon, a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and a member of the New England Shoulder and Elbow Society.
In addition to numerous peer-reviewed articles in medical journals, Dr. Chen has presented research at over fifty international, national, and regional forums, and has served as course faculty at multiple medical conferences. He is currently working on a textbook for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has been featured in over 20 radio interviews nationwide, including CBS in New York, NY and ABC in Seattle, WA. He has been quoted in periodicals nationwide, the most recent of which was U.S. News and World Report in June, 2007.
Past and Present Team Affiliations: Dr. Chen was recently appointed Orthopaedic Consultant to the United States Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, New York. He will be attending the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada with the United States Ski Jump Team. Dr. Chen is the Head Team Physician of United States Ski Jumping, and is a Team Physician for the United States Ski and Snowboard Teams (USSA). He has previously been involved with the medical care of the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, the New York Mets, Madison Square Garden, and the Alvin Ailey Dance Company in New York.
